We recognize that many pilots live outside the USA and may face significant challenges when it comes to beginning and ending their work schedules in their pilot base. We believe it is important to negotiate with management to accommodate these pilots in a way that is fair and sustainable for both parties.
See our response to the current LOA being considered regarding international travel in Episode 3 of our podcast. The system being considered would still require beginning and ending in base requiring very long commutes for some international residents. Consider a junior Captain or FO who is only able to hold split lines requiring more than two commutes a month.
One potential solution we propose is to allow pilots to begin and end their work schedules from within the theater they reside, as long as they are able to report to their scheduled flights on time and fulfill their duties in accordance with airline regulations. This seems to be a simple solution allowing shorter commutes for the pilot and potentially saving considerable costs for the company. This type of scheduling is utilized by many airlines and is referred to as reverse rosters.
We believe that such an arrangement would not only benefit pilots by reducing the burden of travel and allowing for more flexibility in their personal and professional lives, but also benefit the airline by improving overall job satisfaction and retention rates.
We are committed to working collaboratively with management to find solutions such as reverse rosters that meet the needs of all members and ensure the long-term success and sustainability of the our airline.
